River–Sea Vessel Specifications

Assessing Vessels with Technical Data

River–sea vessel specifications are used to assess cargo requirements alongside route conditions. Capacity, length, beam, draught and hold configuration address different questions. A suitable total tonnage does not mean that every cargo can be transported in the same way.

Compiled from Translog's historical service sources, this page provides a technical reference for comparing vessel types. The table includes data for Amur, Volga, Volga–Balt, Volga–Don, Volzhky, Nefterudovoz, Omsky, Sibirsky, Sormovsky, ST 19620 and STK types.

This information is not a current fleet list or a commitment to vessel availability. Actual dimensions, capacity and operating conditions must be confirmed separately for the vessel used in a particular shipment. To explore the service scope, see our river–sea transport page.

Dimensions, Draught and Hold Configuration

When assessing vessel options, compatibility between cargo dimensions and holds or loading openings is important. Total hold volume alone does not explain cargo positioning. For large equipment in particular, loading methods, placement and discharge must be considered together.

Length, beam and draught data in the table help examine the technical relationship between vessel and route. Draught and passage conditions are assessed separately for river–sea connections. Loaded-vessel data must be verified against the operation's actual conditions.

Hold count and volume assist the assessment of multi-piece shipments. Weight distribution, stackability and securing requirements need additional information. In project cargo operations, technical drawings and piece lists support this assessment.

Vessel and Cargo Compatibility on Caspian Routes

For Caspian-connected river–sea transport, vessel characteristics are assessed together with origins and destinations. Where canals or shallow-water connections are involved, dimensions and passage conditions are important alongside carrying capacity. The appropriate option is determined by assessing vessel and cargo data together.

Caspian Sea transport planning requires sailing availability and canal access to be confirmed before operations. Historical technical tables do not show current passage conditions or vessel availability on a particular date. Reference information should therefore not be used as a definitive transport plan.

Equipment requirements at loading and discharge ports are also linked to vessel selection. Port services assess lifting, handling and securing requirements so technical options can be considered within the overall operation.

Using the Tables and Confirming Operations

Table values are compiled from historical sources; unclear fields are not presented as confirmed information. References may be used for an initial review of general dimensions and capacities across vessel types. Current technical documents for the vessel to be used must be assessed separately.

To compare a vessel option with your cargo, provide each item's weight, dimensions including packaging, lifting points and technical drawings. The loading port, destination port, expected shipment date and onward delivery requirements after discharge should also be included in the transport plan.

After the initial assessment, vessel suitability, loading arrangements and operating requirements are clarified. For more information, contact the Translog operations team. Explore general transport options on our sea transport page and use the table below as a technical reference.
